Introduction
Last week, I shared about creation.
This week, I debunk the idea that all religions worship the same God or all religions are the same.
The God of the Bible…
has no beginning.
The easiest way to refute the idea that the God of the Bible is like other gods is to hear what the God of the Bible has to say about Himself in His Word, the Bible!
Before the mountains were brought forth,
Or ever You had formed the earth and the world,
Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.Psalm 90:2
The God of the Bible is eternal, without beginning or end. He is not a created being Himself but He is the Creator of all things.
is unique.
The God of the Bible is not like other gods because not only does He declare that He is unique, not only does He declare that He is not like other gods, He does not acknowledge the gods of other people as His equals either.
Let all the nations be gathered together,
And let the people be assembled.
Who among them can declare this,
And show us former things?
Let them bring out their witnesses, that they may be justified;
Or let them hear and say, “It is truth.”
“You are My witnesses,” says the Lord,
“And My servant whom I have chosen,
That you may know and believe Me,
And understand that I am He.
Before Me there was no God formed,
Nor shall there be after Me.
I, even I, am the Lord,
And besides Me there is no savior.
I have declared and saved,
I have proclaimed,
And there was no foreign god among you;
Therefore you are My witnesses,”
Says the Lord, “that I am God.
Indeed before the day was, I am He;
And there is no one who can deliver out of My hand;
I work, and who will reverse it?”Isaiah 43:9-13
There is no other god like the God of the Bible and while you are free to reject/deny it, it does not change the absolute truth about the uniqueness of the God of the Bible.
approves of beef and bacon!
This might sound trivial but it is a simple point that needs to be considered. If the God of the Bible were the same as the gods of other faiths (Hinduism and Islam for example), would He not have the same instructions for everyone?
So He said to them, “Are you thus without understanding also? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him, because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated, thus purifying all foods?” And He said, “What comes out of a man, that defiles a man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile a man.”
Mark 7:18-23
While God has some instructions for Israel concerning clean and unclean animals in the Old Testament, it is very clear that in the New Testament, those instructions no longer apply. Not only did Jesus make this clear in the verses above, this truth is also reinforced in the experience Peter has in the book of Acts (Acts 10:9-16).
While Christians are free to eat whatever meat we choose to, the same cannot be said of Hinduism (beef is forbidden) and Islam (pork is forbidden). If the God of the Bible were the same as the gods of these faiths, why this difference?
Conclusion
While it is true that many religions share similar teachings about certain topics, this does not mean that all religions are the same or that all religions worship the same God.
If all religions don’t worship the same God and therefore, all religions are not the same, going by at least one of the attributes we associate with God in that He is not fickle like us and doesn’t change His mind on a whim, one must logically conclude that all religions cannot be right. If all religions aren’t right, then there are only two possibilities: only one religion is correct OR all religions are wrong.
If you believe that all religions are wrong, of course, you are free to believe that.
If only one religion is correct, then the question is which one?
I have placed my trust and faith in Jesus as the Son of God, the Saviour of the world, not only because of what is written in the Bible, but also because I have experienced Him firsthand through His Holy Spirit.
I pray you will come to know Jesus as your personal Saviour and Lord.
God bless you.
