Introduction
Recently, Christians celebrated Easter Sunday or Resurrection Sunday. Without the resurrection of Jesus Christ, Christianity cannot exist.
“So what? Why Christianity? What about other religions?”, one can argue.
This is not meant to be an in depth look at this topic but nevertheless, I pray the LORD will speak to you through this message.
Main Verse: 1 Peter 3:13-16
13 And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good? 14 But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. “And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.” 15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; 16 having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed.
Note: instead of “a defense”, some translations have “an answer”, which I personally believe is a better way to express what God intends.
As Christians, we don’t have to defend our decision to follow Jesus, nor do we owe anyone an explanation for it. However, God wants every true believer and follower of Jesus (a real Christian) to be able to express why they are a Christian. There’s no such thing as “blind faith”.
There are countless ways an actual conversation between a Christian (believer) and a non-Christian (unbeliever) might unfold so it’s not easy to capture. So, I will instead take certain topics and look at what unbelievers believe and what God/the Bible has to say about it.
Let’s start with the beginning of everything.
Creation: Where did everything come from?
- The World – Big Bang Theory
- Georges Lemaître (Astronomer, 1927)
- Long ago, universe started as just a single point
- Universe stretched and expanded to its current size
- Still expandingGod’s response to the world: Psalm 14:1
The fool has said in his heart,“There is no God.”They are corrupt,They have done abominable works,There is none who does good.
The God of the Bible doesn’t mince words when describing those who doubt His existence.
Those who don’t want to believe in God, don’t have any problem in believing the Big Bang Theory as fact but it should raise some questions in a mind capable of reason.
What did the single point contain? Where did it come from? Why was it there? What caused the explosion? Where did the energy for the explosion come from? Why did the explosion happen? When did the explosion happen? If there is a when, then does that mean time has always existed? Has the laws of physics always existed?
You see, everything cannot come from nothing, so it has to come from something, but then, where did the something come from and who put it there?
Science does not have absolute answers to these questions, so scientists keep coming up with new theories to explain the inexplicable.
It would be foolish to accept theories as fact when none of it can be proven using scientific methods.
- The Word – Genesis 1:1
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
On the other hand, the God of the Bible tells us He created everything.
“Who created God?” is often raised by those who are utterly ignorant of the fact that we Christians believe in the God of the Bible, who has always existed. Christians don’t believe in any god, we ONLY believe in the God of the Bible. The God of the Bible isn’t the Allah of Islam or any of the gods of Hinduism or any other religion.
Our God, the God of the Bible, is without beginning or end and has limitless power beyond human comprehension.
Is it easier to believe in the Big Bang Theory (with all its questions) OR an all powerful God who created everything?
- What about you?If everything is a product of chance, then life has no meaning or purpose and you are just a “cosmic accident” and inconsequential. There is no right or wrong and everyone can do whatever they like, without morals or values or rules to govern anything. If God created everything, then you are no accident, life has meaning and purpose, absolute morality exists, good and evil are clearly defined and you are so precious that Jesus died for you! What you believe in (or don’t), will determine the way you live your life and the peace, joy and contentment you will experience.
God bless you.
